What would culture be without LGTBIQ+ voices? This is the question that the new Pride Barcelona campaign asks, bluntly. Under the motto “LGTBIQ+ Culture: Universal Culture”, the most emblematic event of the queer summer in the Mediterranean focuses this year on something that goes far beyond the show: the power of culture as a tool of visibility, resistance and memory.
The official presentation took place this June 18 at the Museum of Forbidden Art. There, the poster for this edition was unveiled, the calendar of activities and, of course, the central message: without diversity, there is no culture. And without culture, there is no change.
A campaign that pays tribute to 12 LGTBIQ+ icons
The visual proposal of Pride Barcelona 2025 is, in addition to being artistic, deeply political. Twelve LGTBIQ+ artists linked to Catalonia have reinterpreted twelve historical figures who have left their mark on art, literature, music or thought, linking each of them to a color of the inclusive flag.
Among those honored we find names as powerful as:
- Andy Warhol, by Albert Madaula
- RuPaul, by Rubén Antón
- Margarita Xirgu, by Araceli Plata
- Pedro Almodóvar, by Cachetejack
- Lola Indigo, by Giselle Vitali
- Freddie Mercury, by Catalina Parra
- Federico García Lorca, by Daniel Torrent
- Frida Kahlo, by Nazareth Dos Santos
- Virginia Woolf, by Alba Prado
- Elliot Page, by Cynthia Veneno
- Cristina Ortiz “La Veneno”, by Siscu Romero
- Lady Gaga, by Jav Rubín

Each illustration, with its personal lines and committed gaze, reconstructs the collective history of a community that has been contributing—often from the shadows—to universal cultural heritage for centuries.
As expressed by Maria Giralt, vice president of Pride Barcelona:
“Our culture is not a niche, it is the heritage of all people. Without creativity and LGTBIQ+ diversity, culture would be grayer, more boring and less wise.”
A program full of life, struggle and celebration
This year’s edition will be held from June 26 to July 19, with more than 60 social and cultural activities promoted by local entities and groups. The programming revolves around three pillars: visibility, vindication and celebration.
Notable events include:
- 📍 Pride Demonstration: Saturday, July 19, from Plaça Universitat to Passeig Lluís Companys.
- 🎤 Two main stages: in Plaça Universitat and Pg. Lluís Companys, with concerts, DJs and shows on July 18 and 19.
- 📣 The Pride proclamation: will take place on July 17.
This cultural display turns Pride Barcelona into something more than a party: it is a space where community, struggle and hope can be breathed.
A candidacy with international ambition
This year, in addition, Pride Barcelona has launched its candidacy to host World Pride 2030, a global scale event that could position the city as a global benchmark in LGTBIQ+ rights. As part of this strategy, the event logo has also been renewed, prominently incorporating the colors of the inclusive flag.
Institutional support and the associative fabric, keys to moving forward
The project has the support of the Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Diputació de Barcelona, as well as the sponsorship of companies such as Estrella Damm, Vueling, Focus or TMB. But the real driving force of this edition has been the collaboration of more than 35 social entities and 13 groups of the Motor Group.
For Ángel Hurtado, representative of the latter:
“Without LGTBIQ+ people, there is no culture. And without culture, there is no future. This campaign is a declaration of pride, resistance and collective memory. We will not allow ourselves to be erased.”
Culture, pride and community
Pride Barcelona 2025 not only celebrates diversity. He also writes it, paints it, sings it and shouts it. At a time when hate speech is gaining ground again, recovering our cultural voices is a form of resistance. And of the future.
