A week before MADO, the heart of Madrid beats stronger

Before LGTBIQ+ Pride officially starts in Madrid, Chueca is already celebrating. Neighborhood Pride, which will take place from June 26 to July 1, turns the streets and venues of this emblematic neighborhood into a hive of culture, music, art and life. A whole week to let yourself be carried away by the festive, protesting and community atmosphere that defines this essential event in the city’s diverse calendar.

What is Neighborhood Pride?

More than a MADO appetizer, Orgullo de Barrio is its own experience. It is Chueca’s way of opening its doors and showing its essence: free, creative and deeply inclusive. During these days, bars, shops, galleries and cultural spaces become the epicenter of alternative programming that celebrates diversity in all its forms.

It’s not just a party (that too). It is culture, it is street, it is art, it is gastronomy, it is memory. It is an invitation to experience Chueca from within, as a neighbor, visitor or ally.

Featured activities: a menu for all tastes

During the six days that the event lasts, every corner of the neighborhood is activated with proposals for all audiences. Although the complete program is revealed closer to the date, we know that they will not be missing:

  • DJ sessions in legendary venues in the neighborhood.
  • Exhibitions and live art, both in galleries and improvised spaces.
  • Performances and street shows that invite participation.
  • Gastronomic routes and special promotions in bars and restaurants.
  • Events with historical memory, so as not to forget where we come from or to whom we owe so much.

It is, without a doubt, an ideal opportunity to get to know or rediscover Chueca beyond its more touristy image. To share, listen, dance and also reflect.

Local pride, diverse commerce

One of the keys to Orgullo de Barrio is its commitment to local commerce. Participating in this week also means supporting those who have been supporting the unique character of Chueca for years. The usual bars, the shops run by people from the group, the queer bookstores, the independent cafes… They all contribute so that this neighborhood does not lose its soul.

Because celebrating pride also means taking care of the fabric that makes it possible.

Why not miss Neighborhood Pride?

Because it is a unique opportunity to experience Pride from its roots, without large stages or institutional protocols. Here everything happens at street level, with closeness, spontaneity and a great desire to share.

And because, in times of social setbacks, any display of LGTBIQ+ visibility and joy is also a form of resistance.
