Maspalomas has once again been dyed in all the colors to celebrate one of the most anticipated events of the year. But this time it wasn’t just a party. Not just music or sequins. This 2025, Maspalomas Pride has shouted loud and clear: without trans people, there is no Pride possible.
During the Float Parade—which is already a must-see event in Playa del Inglés—the opening banner launched a message that left no room for doubt: “There is no Pride without Trans people. There is no silence in the face of hate.” A powerful phrase, yes. But also a reflection of what many LGTBIQ+ people experience daily: legal setbacks, institutional violence and hate speech that multiply as if nothing had happened.
More than 100,000 voices for equality
The parade covered 8 kilometers of pure demand. From early in the afternoon, thousands of people—more than 100,000, according to the organization—filled the streets amid music, rainbow flags, and banners that spoke of rights, but also of open wounds. And be careful, because this year Spanish Television broadcast it live. One more step towards real visibility.
The emotion started strong from the beginning: families with trans minors from Chrysallis Canarias marched at the front of the parade. They wore t-shirts that said things like “New name, new clothes. Same heart” or “The best medicine is information”. Nothing to add. Just feel.
Party, yes. But he also fights
The 38 floats that formed the parade were a waste of creativity, rhythm and bodies that do not ask permission to exist. From regulatory bodies to dissident bodies, everything had its place. Hotels and apartments joined in by hanging flags on balconies. The temperature – 24 degrees – and the giant fans teamed up to create the perfect atmosphere.
But let’s not forget: this is not just about celebration. It is aboutremembering that Pride is born from protest. And although parties like the ‘Ice Cream Pool Party’ at the Seven Hotel or the ‘Sunday Night Pride Closing Show’ at the Yumbo have put the finishing touch with brilliance, the message is clear: rights are not guaranteed, they must be defended every day.
How long will we resist?
It is true that events like Maspalomas Pride are necessary. That help to make visible, to unite, to celebrate what we are. But we also have to ask ourselves: don’t we run the risk of everything remaining on the surface? When big brands jump on the rainbow bandwagon, do they do it out of real commitment or marketing? What happens when the party ends and we return to the reality of laws that go back or attacks that do not stop?
It is an uncomfortable topic, but necessary. Because if we don’t question what we do, how are we going to move forward?
