  • The artist Antonio Ufarte opens the exhibition “Más Allá del Arcoíris” on June 20 with ten exclusive works that reinterpret celluloid classics.

The redefinition of the LGTBIQ+ cinema imaginary assumes cultural prominence in the capital thanks to a plastic proposal that connects cinematic nostalgia with contemporary illustration. The artist Antonio Ufarte inaugurates this Friday, June 20, his new exhibition titled “Más Allá del Arcoíris” in the facilities of La Fiambrera Art Gallery, located on the emblematic Calle del Pez number 30 in Madrid. The initiative is officially integrated into the activities of Muestra•t, the cultural festival of Madrid Orgullo (MADO 2026), actively coordinated by the social organizations AEGAL, COGAM and the State LGTBI+ Federation (FELGTBI+).

An emotional archive that reinterprets the great myths of the screen

The artistic collection is made up of ten exclusive illustrations where Ufarte deploys its own and highly stylized visual language. The central objective of the exhibition is to establish a direct dialogue with the historical memory of the group, rescuing milestones that served as a refuge and identity base for successive generations of dissidents.

The works function as an archive of collective feelings that revisits international cinematography from an intimate and current perspective. By dismantling and reconstructing these scenes, the Andalusian creator not only pays an aesthetic tribute, but also examines the political and social mechanisms that turned certain films into universal symbols of dissidence.

From the fields of Kansas to the mountains of Wyoming

The exhibition’s route travels through essential film geographies that have left an indelible mark on the mass culture of recent decades. Among the most notable pieces of the series, the reinterpretation of the mythical Kansas environment associated with Dorothy’s journey in The Wizard of Oz and its iconic melody “Over the Rainbow” stand out.

Likewise, the exhibition takes the viewer to the peaks of Wyoming to relive the clandestine romance between the characters Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist in director Ang Lee’s masterpiece, Brokeback Mountain. These geographical and emotional references serve to illustrate how forbidden love and the search for a safe space have been recurring themes that have shaped the visibility and representation of the community in the exhibition halls.

Institutional support for the Sample•t 2026 cultural festival

The arrival of “Más Allá del Arcoíris” to the Madrid scene occurs at a time of great cultural excitement for the city due to the start of Pride. The La Fiambrera gallery will keep the exhibition accessible to local visitors and tourists until August 1, 2026, ensuring full coverage during the central weeks of the festivities.

The project has a solid institutional support structure for its logistical and promotional development. Sample•t has the financing and sponsorship of the Madrid City Council as the main collaborator of the cultural agenda, also adding the technical support of the Community of Madrid to enhance the value of contemporary art as a tool for transformation and defense of social rights.
