More than 250,000 people participated in a massive demonstration in defense of collective rights
It wasn’t just a march. It was a collective cry, a diverse party and an act of resistance. This Saturday, July 19, more than 250,000 people walked the streets of Barcelona in the unitary demonstration of Pride 2025. A figure that, beyond its magnitude, makes a clear message: in the face of setbacks, we are still here. And we are not willing to remain silent.

A culture that unites, transforms and does not give up
The motto chosen this year, “LGTBIQ+ Culture, Universal Culture”, was not coincidental. The proposal of Pride Barcelona placed culture as the common thread of the entire program: art, music, words, thought, history and queer memory. All that sustains us when everything else falters.
Because yes, celebrating is necessary, but it is also necessary to remember that there are rights that are being questioned. How to resist without ceasing to be who we are? How to weave bridges between generations and different groups without losing the strength of the common cry?

A massive, diverse and transversal march
The route began at Plaça Universitat and ended at Passeig de Lluís Companys, crossing the heart of the city with more than 50 floats and dozens of buses walking side by side elbow.
From neighborhood associations to activist groups, through racialized groups, trans, migrants, LGTBIQ+ seniors, diverse families or queer youth: they all found a place on this day where plurality was not only made visible, but was strongly celebrated.
And when they reached the end of the route, the music took over. Concerts, performances and speeches took place on the main stages, transforming Passeig de Lluís Companys and Plaça Universitat into an authentic popular festival. But not just any one, but a party that vindicates, that remembers, that puts the body, the word and the emotion at the center.

Facing hate: pride, art and community
The reactionary wave that is sweeping Europe—and that also threatens here—has been one of the concerns shared during Pride 2025. The advance of speeches that question acquired rights cannot leave us indifferent.
The organization of Pride Barcelona has insisted: “Pride is culture. Culture is resistance. Barcelona does not take steps back”. And, as was experienced this weekend, it’s not just about words. The involvement of volunteers, citizen participation and the support of entities and institutions have reinforced the idea that activism not only resists on the margins: it also occupies the center.
Now what?
Saturday’s day was a success. But it also leaves us with questions. How to maintain this energy throughout the year? What do we each do, from where we are, to defend what has been achieved and continue moving forward?
Pride is an important event, but the fight for LGTBIQ+ rights is constant. May culture be a permanent ally. May art be with us. And let us never forget that being visible, together and proud, is also a way to transform the world.
