The Festival Brava Madrid 2025, scheduled for September 19 and 20 at the Torrejรณn de Ardoz Fairgrounds, is presented as a celebration of LGTBIQ+ diversity. However, in recent weeks, a controversy has emerged that calls into question his commitment to human rights and ethics: his connection with the American investment fund KKR, noted for its support of companies involved in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Why is the link with Israel questioned?
KKR, through its acquisition of Superstruct Entertainment, the promoter behind Brava Madrid, owns stakes in companies operating in occupied Palestinian territories. These investments have been criticized by organizations such as the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement, which accuse KKR of financing activities that contribute to the conflict and human rights violations in Gaza.
FACUA and the right to reimbursement
Consumer association FACUA has intervened after receiving complaints from festival-goers who do not wish to indirectly support KKR. FACUA reminds that, according to Spanish law, any significant modification to the poster, such as the cancellation of announced artists, gives the public the right to request a refund of tickets. The association has reported the developer to the Consumer Inspection Service of the Torrejรณn de Ardoz City Council for refusing to return the money to those affected.
Artists who have retired
Several artists have decided to cancel their participation in Brava Madrid 2025 due to the festival’s connection with KKR. Among them are Villano Antillano and Abril Zamora, who have publicly expressed their refusal to collaborate with events associated with companies that support the conflict in Gaza.
KKR and its involvement in the conflict
KKR has been identified by various media and organizations as an investor in companies operating in the occupied Palestinian territories. These investments include real estate developments in controversial areas, which have led to accusations that KKR contributes to the maintenance of illegal settlements and the suffering of the Palestinian people. The BDS movement has specifically singled out KKR for its role in funding activities they view as part of the genocide in Gaza.
The controversy surrounding Brava Madrid 2025 raises a fundamental question: is it possible to celebrate diversity and pride while indirectly supporting entities linked to human rights violations? The decision to attend or not to attend the festival lies with each individual, but it is essential to be informed about the ethical implications of our choices.
