The Community of Madrid announces a macro tribute to the US in the Casa de Campo coinciding with the Saturday of the LGTBIQ+ state demonstration.
- Madrid will commemorate the 250th anniversary of US Independence on July 4, the busiest day for Madrid Pride.
- The opposition and groups describe the act as “ideological counterprogramming” aligned with international Trumpism.
Madrid is preparing for a July 4 that promises to be the epicenter of an unprecedented cultural battle. While all of us will flood the streets of downtown demanding the freedom to be and feel in the state Pride demonstration, Puerta del Sol has decided to look towards Washington. Isabel Díaz Ayuso today announced a massive deployment to celebrate the sestercentenary (250 years) of the Independence of the United States. What is institutionally presented as a “happy cultural mix” is perceived as a deliberate maneuver to obscure the visibility of our collective on its most sacred day.

The Trump factor: A nod to the global right
Ayuso not only celebrates a historic date; It is staging an alignment with the most conservative currents in the United States. Inviting “Trumpism” to Madrid on the same day that thousands of trans and non-binary people march for their survival is a calculated provocation.
While reproductive rights are being curtailed in the US and diversity education is being pursued, Ayuso decides that this will be the model to honor in Madrid. It is a complete “counterprogramming”: changing the message of pride and diversity for one of national identity and conservatism.
From Magazine Rainbow, we remember that Pride is a political demonstration, not a simple party. Trying to “erase” social protest with an institutional festival is an old but dangerous tactic. Madrid is an open and plural city, and no counterprogramming can hide that the heart of the capital beats in a queer key every July.
