An intergenerational look at celebrating equal marriage in Spain

This 2025 marks a milestone that invites us to stop, breathe and look back. 20 years have passed since Spain said “I do” to equal marriage, becoming one of the first countries in the world to legally recognize love between people of the same gender. A social and political conquest that changed lives, opened paths and, above all, legitimized stories that were denied for too long.

On the occasion of this celebration, COGAM, the LGTBI+ Collective of Madrid, has teamed up with the dating app Tinder to launch the campaign “20 years of saying Yes, I want”, an audiovisual project that connects different generations of the LGTBIQ+ collective in conversations that are as intimate as they are necessary.

Three dialogues that cross generations and experiences

The heart of the campaign is made up of three meetings between activists over 50 years of age and young leaders of Generation Z. They are not interviews or speeches: they are sincere talks, sometimes sweet, sometimes uncomfortable, but always real. Because although the struggle is the same, the ways of living it have changed over time.

🧡 Pabs and Gerardo – About love, wounds and first times

Content creator Pabs Perezz, known for his unfiltered humor, sits in front of Gerardo López, historical activist and one of the first people to marry after the law was passed. Together they talk about how gay visibility has evolved, but also about the wounds that still sting: the fear of rejection, family silences, absences.

@tinder.es Two generations. Two stories. The same pride. 20 years of equal marriage in Spain and there is still a lot to tell. 🌈 #GenerationQueer #OrgulloTodoElAño #Mado2025 ♬ original sound – Tinder Spain

💚 Paula and Marina – Glass ceilings in feminine plural

Queens League soccer player Paula Blas and mathematician and activist Marina Logares share their experience in worlds that, although they advance, continue to carry prejudices. Sports and science are not always safe spaces for lesbian women. Together they reflect on what has changed… and what is still costing too much.

💜 Shannis and Anna Virginia – Identities that are named

Influencer Shannis, non-binary person and Gen Z speaker, talks with Anna Virginia, trans activist and mother. A deep dialogue about how identity is built when you have no references, about starting over in adulthood and about imagining a kinder and more plural future for everyone.

@tinder.es @Shannis, Gen Z creator 🔥. Anna Virginia, trans activist who paved the way 🏳️‍⚧️. Two generations, an unfiltered talk about references, pride and queer (r)evolution 💥. #QueerGeneration #OrgulloTodoElAño #mado2025 ♬ original sound – Tinder Spain

A tribute to the past, a commitment to the future

The campaign is not limited to celebrating what has already been achieved. It also invites you to listen, share and continue building community. “The same struggle, experienced from different generations, allows us to focus on different aspects,” states COGAM. And it’s true. Each generation brings a different perspective, a new language, its own wound. And they are all necessary.
