Located in the heart of the Paseo del Arte, the legendary Hotel Palace in Madrid reopens its doors with a new name, a renewed image and the support of one of the most prestigious brands in the hotel world.

The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid is no longer just an architectural jewel of the past, but also a firm commitment to the future of conscious luxury. After almost two years of intense renovation, this Madrid icon joins the select group of hotels in The Luxury Collection, part of the Marriott International portfolio. And it does so with a comprehensive transformation that goes beyond aesthetics: we are talking about history, art, heritage and sophistication reinterpreted.

A century of history in the cultural heart of Madrid

The hotel could not be in a better location. Located in the so-called Landscape of Light—an area declared World Heritage by UNESCO—, The Palace is surrounded by the capital’s great cultural treasures: the Prado, the Reina Sofía, the Thyssen-Bornemisza… but also by restaurants, monuments and Madrid life at its best.

Built by order of King Alfonso XIII and inaugurated in 1912, the building occupied the former Palace of the Dukes of Medinaceli. Its design, inspired by the elegance of the Parisian Belle Époque, made it the largest and most luxurious hotel in Europe at the time. Since then, it has been a witness and protagonist of the most vibrant moments—and also the most turbulent—of the Spanish history of the 20th century.

Guests who marked an era

Artists, intellectuals, film stars and political figures have passed through the doors of The Palace. Ignacio Zuloaga lived here. Characters like Blasco Ibáñez, Mata Hari (who, they say, still haunts some room), Buster Keaton, García Lorca, Luis Buñuel, María Félix, Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth also did it. Hemingway, of course, had his dry martini ritual here. And we cannot forget the mythical bullfighters who, dressed in lights, left from the lobby towards Las Ventas.

This hotel has not only hosted legends: it has been part of their stories.

A renewal that honors the past and embraces the present

The rehabilitation project completed in March 2025 has not been a simple “tune-up.” Its façade—an icon of the Paseo del Prado skyline—has recovered the warm beige tone that made it famous, contrasted with terracotta details. The iron and glass dome, a masterful piece by Eduardo Ferrés i Puig and the Maumejean glassmakers, was also restored.

Inside, every corner breathes a balance between classic and modern. The 470 rooms and suites have been completely redesigned, offering an environment that pays tribute to Madrid’s history without giving up the comforts of the 21st century. Luxury, here, is not ostentatious: it is subtle, elegant, with soul.

The new gastronomic bet: between art and experience

And since no experience is complete without a good table, The Palace launches two new culinary concepts:

  • La Cúpula: more than a restaurant, a proposal that reinvents Madrid cuisine under a century-old dome.

  • 27 Club: a nod to history, art and mixology, in a space where each cocktail seems to tell a secret from the past.

Both spaces promise to become key meeting points for locals and visitors, mixing flavors with memories.

Recognitions that support excellence

In 2023, it was recognized as the best business hotel in Spain by the World Travel Awards. In 2024, it won a Michelin key, a seal reserved for exceptional accommodations. Excellence, here, is not aspiration: it is custom.
