Diversity is not just an ethical imperative, it is a driving force. This is the premise that has marked the delivery of the Top LGTBIQ+ Spain 2025 Leaders Awards, a crucial initiative promoted by the Business Network for LGTBI Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) in collaboration with ACTUALIDAD ECONÓMICA. In an event that brought together more than 200 senior management figures, government representatives and business leaders, the incalculable value of inclusion in the Spanish business fabric was revealed.
The ceremony, masterfully conducted by Valeria Vegas and held at the Madrid headquarters of Cuatrecasas, acquired a special symbolism as it coincided with Human Rights Day. This coincidence reminds us that the fight for equality in the workplace is, fundamentally, a question of fundamental rights and social justice.
The Value of a Visible Example
In this edition, which has the motto “The value of the alliance”, we wanted to highlight the role of those professionals who not only defend diversity, but are visible references. And the recent data is eloquent and forces us to reflect: it is estimated that one in two people in senior management in Spain still does not feel completely free to be visible regarding their identity or sexual orientation.
It is in this context where the work of REDI and ACTUALIDAD ECONÓMICA becomes essential. The 2025 list has recognized 25 companies and 45 professionals for their commitment to the implementation of truly inclusive corporate policies. Their contribution is not minor; They are agents of change who demonstrate that authenticity and professional success can go hand in hand.
Institutional support for this project has reached a significant milestone: Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain have accepted the Honorary Presidency of the awards. This support reinforces the relevance of diversity and inclusion not only as a social issue, but also as a key factor for the country’s competitiveness.
Unfiltered Talent: The Cost of Hiding
From Unidad Editorial and head of ACTUALIDAD ECONÓMICA, Francisco Pascual, gives us a powerful metaphor about the importance of transparency: the time and energy that an employee spends hiding their identity is, simply, a torrent that is wasted. Diversity is not only a tool to improve the work environment, but it has a direct and positive impact on economic results.
“There are people who clear out the bushes of intolerance in companies and replace them with flowers of empathy,” Pascual said, pointing to allies as pillars in this process.
For his part, Borja Sainz de Aja, president of REDI, emphasized the mission of these recognitions: to create a mirror. For a long time, millions of LGTBI people grew up without professional figures to draw inspiration from. The Top Leaders list offers these positive models to the new generations entering the market, guaranteeing that talent can develop in an environment of freedom.
What does it mean to be an ally today?
The third edition of Top Líderes LGTBIQ+ is, in itself, a declaration of principles: making visible those who work for respect and equal opportunities. The jury, independent and made up of professionals from various fields, analyzed more than 130 candidates, evaluating the trajectory and transformative impact of each candidate.
The event was closed by Julio del Valle, general director for real and effective Equality for LGTBI+ people, who highlighted the work of the professional sector as the engine of a paradigm shift in the fight against discrimination. In his words, the incorporation of equality and diversity in the business environment is emerging as one of the keys to the success of the government model in this matter.
Question for the reader: If hidden talent is wasted energy for the company, what concrete actions can your workplace promote today to become that space of “empathy flowers” that promotes visibility without fear? The corporate alliance is already underway, and you are part of the equation.
