With the Eurovision 2025 final just around the corner, Eurofans are already showing their cards. And if we are guided by Spotify data, there is one favorite that stands out — and not just by a little. We are talking about Sweden, which with its proposal “Bara Bada Bastu”, by the band KAJ, sweeps the streams. It literally doubles second place. Surprise? Maybe not so much.

KAJ wins the applause (and the clicks)

The Swedish trio KAJ seems to have found the perfect formula to get you hooked. His song, which mixes absurd humor with danceable rhythms and a very Scandinavian air, has gone viral. And not only in Sweden. The song is, so far, the most played globally among all the songs in the contest. Not a minor position if we remember that Sweden already has seven victories behind it and an imposing reputation.

But you also have to ask yourself: is this favorite song on its own merit or because of the country’s historical weight in the festival?

The ‘Top 5’ of Eurovision 2025 according to Spotify

Here is the list of the five favorites on Spotify so far:

  2. 🇮🇹 Italy – “Volevo essere un duro” – Lucio Corsi

  3. 🇳🇱 Netherlands – “C’est La Vie” – Claude

  4. 🇸🇲 San Marino – “Tutta L’Italia” – Gabry Ponte

  5. 🇪🇪 Estonia – “Espresso Macchiato” – Tommy Cash

And watch out for Tommy Cash, who has brought a rather eccentric proposal. Will we see him sneak into the top spots in the final?

Spain wants its DIVA

When it comes to Spanish tastes, there is a clear queen: Melody with her explosive “ESA DIVA”. Although it ranks 13th globally, at home it leads without dispute. Behind him is the Norwegian Kyle Alessandro with “Lighter”, which has especially connected with the youngest (and not so young) audience in the country.

Interestingly, there is an interesting phenomenon with Melody’s song: it connects with all generations. From those who saw her grow up on television, to those who discover her now thanks to TikTok.

The most listened to songs in Spain:

Removing Melody from first place (because she already has her own throne here), the ranking looks like this:

  1. 🇳🇴 Norway: “Lighter” – Kyle Alessandro

  2. 🇸🇲 San Marino: “Tutta L’Italia” – Gabry Ponte

  3. 🇸🇪 Sweden: “Bara Bada Bastu” – KAJ

  4. 🇲🇹 Malta: “Kant” – Miriana Conte

  5. 🇪🇪 Estonia: “Espresso Macchiato” – Tommy Cash

Who sneaks in unexpectedly? Malta. Miriana Conte has convinced many with her intimate and poetic proposal. Which leads us to think… what is the Spanish public really looking for in a Eurovision song?

Eurovision as a global springboard

Beyond the spectacle, Eurovision continues to be a catapult of talent. Nemo, last year’s winner with “The Code”, has seen its views grow by 1,700%. Who wouldn’t want a push like that?

And it is not the only case. Just remember Conchita Wurst or even Måneskin, who went from festival to international stardom in the blink of an eye.

It is clear that Eurovision does not guarantee a career, but it can be the turning point that many artists need.

But… is this a real thermometer?

Now, can we trust Spotify as a Eurovision oracle? Not at all. Views reflect trends, but not votes. The charisma of the live artist, the staging and even geopolitical factors also come into play. Not to mention the jury’s vote, which sometimes surprises (for better or worse).

In addition, not all people have equal access to streaming platforms, and that leaves out many realities. What if we are missing out on other gems by focusing only on the numbers?

🎧 Do you already have your favorite?

On May 17 we will know if the Swedish fever turns into victory or if another country surprises. Until then, we can continue fantasizing about rankings, listening and theories. Because Eurovision is not just music, it is emotion, spectacle and conversation.

If you still don’t know all the songs that will participate in Eurovision 2025, we leave you the official list of the Spotify channel.
