The Plaza de España in Madrid was dressed in colors again this Friday to host the grand final of the Mr. Gay Spain 2025 contest. There, between lights, music and demands, the Andalusian Edu Morales won the winner’s band.

A story that goes beyond the catwalk

Eduardo Morales, 24 years old and a resident of La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz), has conquered the jury and the public not only for his stage presence, but also for his life story. With Cuban roots and a history marked by difference, Edu has known how to transform labels into an engine of struggle.

He grew up in an environment where he was called “the weird one”: for his height, his mixed-race skin, his sexual orientation or his love for dancing. He learned to defend himself early. His brother Toni, diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, is also an essential part of that path, and of the motivation that pushes Edu to make visible what is often hidden: diversity within diversity.

The pageant, much more than a beauty contest

The gala, presented by Luján Argüelles and Omar Suárez, featured performances by artists such as Edurne, Pimpinela, Nia, Shaila Dúrcal, Leire Martínez, Isabel Aaiún and Nebulossa. A poster that not only entertained, but celebrated queer culture in all its splendor.

The “Chimes of Diversity”, conducted by Karla Sofía Gascón, and the final fireworks show, put the finishing touch to a night in which visibility was the protagonist.

This year, 12 finalists from different parts of the country competed to represent Spain in international competitions. But beyond the title, what unites them all is a common objective: to defend rights, tell their experiences and contribute to a more just and plural society.

Much more than an event

The contest, in its nineteenth edition, not only entertains: it also promotes social campaigns such as #STOPLGTBIFOBIA, focused on denouncing hate crimes, and #HazteVisibleEnElTrabajo, which seeks to promote the labor inclusion of the LGTBIQ+ group. Edu Morales, as the new Mr. Gay Spain, will be an active part of these initiatives.

At Rainbow, we celebrate her victory not only as a personal triumph, but as a symbol of resistance, authenticity and hope for many who still fight to be themselves.
