The LGTBI+ Collective of Madrid, COGAM, has renewed its management team at a key moment for the community, reaffirming its commitment to the defense of LGTBI+ rights and the preparation of the 2027 congress. At the Extraordinary General Assembly held yesterday, Ronny de la Cruz was re-elected as president with a resounding 86% of the votes, accompanied by Beth Giraldo as vice president, Marco Gamboa as secretary and Alesya Beneroso as feminism member. In addition, Gustavo Molina will continue in his position as treasurer, guaranteeing the economic stability of the organization.
A team with new perspectives for more inclusive activism
After his reelection, Ronny de la Cruz highlighted the importance of this new stage: “This team provides new perspectives to face the challenges of a group that continues to be essential in the defense of LGTBI+ rights in Madrid.” The new directive is committed to reinforcing intersectional activism, revitalizing volunteer groups and increasing COGAM’s presence in educational, cultural and political spaces.
For her part, Beth Giraldo, transfeminist activist and now vice president, stressed the need for COGAM to remain a safe and accessible space for all people. “We want no one to be left out of activism due to age, class, origin or identity. It is essential that we continue to build a diverse, intergenerational and transformative community,” he said.
Recognition of those who paved the way
During the Assembly, tribute was paid to the work of those who leave the board of directors after years of commitment to the cause. Carmen García de Merlo (former vice president), Ramón Martínez (outgoing secretary), Yolanda Cosgaya (outgoing vice secretary), Diego Lázaro, Sara Molina and Emilio de Benito (outgoing members) and Mª Carmen Jaenes (former member) were recognized for their efforts in a period marked by the rise of hate speech and legislative setbacks in the Community of Madrid.
De la Cruz highlighted the value of their work in difficult times: “They have been fundamental pillars in the fight for LGTBI+ rights, resisting attacks and promoting initiatives that have made COGAM a reference.”

A roadmap for the future
With this new team at the helm, COGAM will begin its journey with a clear focus: strengthen alliances with other social organizations, increase political impact in defense of LGTBI+ rights and consolidate its role as a driver of activism in Madrid.
The challenges are great, but so is the determination. What role will the community play in this new stage? How can we, from different spaces, contribute to COGAM continuing to be a benchmark? The answers lie in the commitment of each person who believes in a more just and equal future.
