Zaragoza hosts the Cierzo Games from April 24 to 26, consolidating its XIX edition as a pillar of the inclusive sport in Spain. With the presence of local authorities and sports representatives, the event starts today to turn the city into a space of diversity and high-level competition.
A sporting display with international representation
The nineteenth edition of this tournament has been officially presented at the Zaragoza City Hall. The event included the intervention of Félix Brocate, delegate councilor for Sports; David Lechón, president of the Aragonese Volleyball Federation; and Juan Chicón, president of the Cierzo Association. The relevance of this event is evident in its figures: 117 registered teams that represent the plurality of the group within the athletic field.
The participants, from communities such as Andalusia, Madrid, Catalonia and the Valencian Community, will compete in five fundamental disciplines: volleyball, beach volleyball, indoor soccer, basketball and paddle tennis. This last modality remains in the program after the success achieved in the previous edition, demonstrating the constant growth of the Cierzo proLGTB+ Sports Association in the integration of new categories.
Venues and calendar of the competition in Zaragoza
The sporting activity is strategically distributed across six facilities in the city to guarantee the flow of the tournaments. The municipal centers CDM Siglo XXI, PDM RĆo Ebro, PDM Ciudad de Zaragoza and PDM Ramiro Solans will be the main stages, along with the SoccerWorld facilities and the Ebro Sports Park. The calendar is designed to maximize the visibility of each discipline throughout the weekend.
The tests began this Friday with the beach volleyball and paddle tennis sessions, serving as the opening for a Saturday that will concentrate the bulk of the competition from early in the morning. This display is not only a sporting milestone, but also generates a direct economic and tourist impact in Zaragoza, thanks to the arrival of visitors of more than 20 different nationalities.
More than a tournament: a space for LGTBI visibility
The Cierzo Games transcend the final score to become a tool for social transformation. The organization highlights that the primary objective is the creation of a meeting space where sexual orientation or gender identity are not a barrier to practicing sports. It is, in essence, a platform for promoting diversity that seeks to project an image of an open and respectful society.
The success of this year’s call reinforces the role of the Aragonese capital as a destination committed to the values āāof the Rainbow network. By uniting physical effort with the demand for rights, Zaragoza manages to position itself once again on the essential calendar of inclusive activism through sport.
