The Government Council has approved the decree by which November 20 is officially designated as the Trans Remembrance Day in Euskadi. This measure responds to the mandate of article 6 of Law 4/2024, of February 15, focused on non-discrimination based on gender identity and the recognition of the rights of trans people, seeking a necessary historical reparation.
A necessary tribute to the victims of transphobia
The central objective of this decree is to establish an official date of remembrance that contributes to preserving the Memory of those who have suffered invisibility and violation of rights. The election of November 20 has not been random; It has been a proposal agreed upon between the Basque Government and leading entities such as Naizen, Errespetuz and Loratuz Lotu.
This action is part of commitment 128 of the Government Program, reaffirming that the construction of a plural and democratic Euskadi involves recognizing the contribution of trans people and repairing the structural inequalities that they have faced for decades.
Institutional commitment to trans rights in the Basque Country
With the approval of this decree, the Basque public administrations assume the task of working on the recovery and dissemination of the Trans memory. The legal text entrusts the promotion of spaces of recognition and remembrance in coordination with local administrations and the associative fabric.
This milestone not only seeks symbolic reparation, but also consolidates Equality and dignity as pillars of coexistence. By institutionalizing the Trans Day of Remembrance, the Basque Executive guarantees that the fight for the human rights of the LGTBIQ+ community is a transversal and permanent priority on the political agenda of Euskadi.
