In a world where sport is a fundamental pillar for personal and social development, the Iberian Sports Association (ADI LGTBI+) invites us to reflect on inclusion. October, the month of Trans Despatologization and the International Day of Intersexual Visibility, has been the framework chosen to launch an initiative that seeks to transform grassroots sport into a truly welcoming space for all people. A decalogue for equality on the fields
ADI LGTBI+ has published a free download decalogue (www.adilgtb.org/decalogo) that addresses crucial points to guarantee the inclusion of trans, intersex and non-binary people. This document is not just a guide, it is a declaration of principles that is aligned with Spanish laws, which protect non-discrimination.
What key aspects does this decalogue address?
- Legislation: Understand the legal framework that protects everyone’s rights.
- Locker rooms: Create safe and respectful spaces for diversity.
- Categories: Rethink sports divisions so that no one is left out.
- Protocols against harassment: Establish clear mechanisms to prevent and act against LGTBIphobia.
This decalogue will not remain on paper. ADI LGTBI+ is committed to bringing specific training to clubs and federations, taught by specialized volunteers. If your club or federation wishes to join this initiative, you can request these “pedagogical pills” through formacion@adilgtb.es.

The harsh reality: Two out of three suffer from LGTBIphobia in sports
The 2023 ADI Observatory data hits us with an undeniable reality: through a survey of 500 people from the LGTBIQ+ community, it was revealed that 2 out of 3 have suffered LGTBIphobia in sports at some point in their lives. The most alarming thing is that 50% of these cases occur during adolescence, a crucial period when the abandonment of physical activity increases.
This figure forces us to ask ourselves: Are we creating sporting environments that nurture and empower everyone, or are we allowing discrimination to expel some of our youth from such a vital space?
The ADI Observatory: A beacon against discrimination
Faced with this reality, the ADI Observatory stands as a fundamental tool. ADI LGTBI+ highlights the importance of reporting LGTBIphobia in sport, making a reporting channel available to anyone accessible on its website.
Annually, this entity publishes a detailed report that not only compiles these complaints, but also analyzes effective measures to combat discrimination and ensure compliance with Sports Law 39/2022, which protects non-discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
Sport has the power to unite, teach values and build communities. It is time for that power to extend to everyone, without exception. What can we do, as a society, to ensure that each person finds their place in sport, free of prejudice and discrimination? The answer is in our hands.
