From July 14 to 19, Alicante celebrates Pride 2025 with more than 20 activities and a demonstration that promises to be historic
Alicante already has everything ready to live a vibrant, diverse week with a lot to say. From July 14 to 19, the city will be the scene of a special program on the occasion of LGTBIQ+ Pride 2025, framed in the twentieth anniversary of equal marriage in Spain. But beyond commemorating a law, this year we vindicate what still needs to be achieved, celebrating the diversity of our community and the spirit of Alicante with pride.
The agenda, presented by groups such as Alicante Entiende, Diversitat and We understand, together with the Department of Social Welfare, brings together more than 20 activities that combine art, sport, historical memory and social struggle. And all of this will culminate with a large demonstration on Friday the 19th, under the motto “Pride of all”.
This event not only celebrates pride, but also promotes a clear message: the fight for the rights and visibility of all identities. Alicante is proudly a call to unity and resistance in the LGTBIQ+ community.
Pride, but also alert
Although the atmosphere is celebratory, there is also space for reflection. The recent homophobic attack on a 23-year-old young man in the center of Alicante – hit with a bottle after receiving insults for his sexual orientation – has shaken the community. During the presentation of the program, the associations insisted on a clear message: legal equality does not mean real equality.
And, despite the progress, violence and discrimination are still present in the daily lives of many LGTBIQ+ people. For this reason, this Pride also wants to be a speaker. A space to make visible what hurts, but also to defend what unites.
What’s on the agenda?
The variety of activities speaks for itself. It’s not just a party, although there will be one too. Here are some of the most notable events:
- 🎬 Screening of the documentary ‘Invertirs’ at Casa Mediterráneo.
- 🎶 Film and music session with a female gaze in Las Cigarreras.
- 🌈 Tribute to the activist Toni Brotons Hernández, better known as Toni, el del Forat.
- 👠 Heel race, in honor of the combative history of the movement.
- 🏐 First LGTBIQ+ beach volleyball tournament in the city.
- 🎭 Great artistic gala with more than 16 performances and four hours of show.
- 🔥 Fiesta with the Felipe Vergel bonfire, popular symbol of the city.
Everything is designed to offer accessible culture, meeting spaces and activities where everyone can express themselves without filters or fears.
The great closure: demonstration and celebration in the streets
On Friday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m., the Plaza de los Luceros will be the starting point of a demonstration that will run through some of the main arteries of the city: Alfonso El Sabio, Rambla de Méndez Núñez and Rafael Altamira, until reaching the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. There, the day will end with a great party full of music, floats and demands.
Between 20,000 and 22,000 people are expected in the streets, along with a dozen floats, groups, NGOs and unions. It will also be an opportunity to pay tribute to trans people, victims of attacks, and the first married couple in Alicante after the approval of equal marriage.
The associations have stressed the importance of continuing to build a Pride that belongs to everyone. “It’s not just about having a good time, but about remembering why we are here,” they say. And although they celebrate the collaboration of the City Council and the Provincial Council, they are still seeking support to be able to install drink bars during the events at the City Hall.
There is progress, yes. But there are also challenges. And it is precisely in that balance where Pride finds its strength: in the ability to transform pain into celebration, and celebration into protest. And you, are you going to miss it?
