Sport, in its purest essence, is a universal language capable of breaking down barriers and uniting people. In Sevilla, this premise comes to life with the celebration of the I LGTBIQ+ Volleyball Tournament, an initiative that not only seeks competition, but also the creation of safe, inclusive and respectful for all athletes. Organized by the Chicotá sports club and with the support of the Seville City Council, this event promises to be a milestone in the city’s sports and social calendar.
Beyond the Court: A Cry for Freedom and Equality
On October 11, the Pino Montano Sports Center will be the scene of this pioneering tournament in Andalusia, which will be held under the inspiring motto “Let no one limit your freedom!”. This phrase, more than a slogan, encapsulates the philosophy of an event that defends equality in all areas, including sports.
José Luis García, Equality delegate, has emphasized the importance of this collaboration, highlighting the commitment of José Luis Sanz’s Government team to promoting environments where each person can enjoy sport without fear of discrimination. It is a clear and forceful message: in Seville, all identities, expressions and orientations have a place and respect.
An International Meeting with Social Impact
The tournament will not only attract more than 20 teams from various Spanish cities, but will also have the participation of teams from Portugal, consolidating itself as a reference event. But the day goes beyond pure competition. Cultural and awareness-raising activities have been scheduled that seek to reinforce the educational and social dimension of the event.
Chicotá Club Deportivo LGTBIQ+, founded in Seville in September 2023, has found in the City Council a fundamental ally to promote initiatives like this. Its commitment focuses on the creation of accessible sports spaces, where volleyball becomes a powerful tool for coexistence, equality and social transformation.
This tournament invites us to reflect: are we really building a sport that celebrates diversity in all its forms? What role does each of us play in creating environments where freedom and respect are the fundamental pillars? The answer lies in initiatives like this one, which remind us that sport has the power to change the world, one serve and one reception at a time.
