The safe development of the LGTBIAQ+ Pride demonstration València is in serious danger due to unforeseen municipal neglect. The Lambda collective has publicly denounced the appearance of some surprise works carried out by the City Council on Colón Street, a street that concentrates most of the festive and protest itinerary this coming Saturday, June 20. The organizing entity describes the situation as alarming negligence, since the work on the road compromises the safety conditions essential to accommodate the tens of thousands of people who will gather in the capital of Turia.
A security meeting without any municipal warning
The social alarm has exploded just 48 hours after the general call. Representatives of the Lambda collective participated last Friday in an official technical coordination meeting with members of the Government Delegation, the National Police and the Local Police. At this meeting, all civil emergency protocols were endorsed and the technical reports were fully favorable for the traditional route, which has been maintained without structural alterations for more than a decade in the city.
At no time during the sector meeting was the existence of imminent urban projects in the transit area mentioned. Lambda verified the seriousness of the events autonomously during the terrain reconnaissance tasks carried out together with the volunteer team. The activists located multiple sections with the pavement completely lifted, open ditches and loose cobblestones accumulated on the margins, elements that are completely incompatible with the safe advance of a massive and compact march.
The suppression of institutional mediation with Equality
The origin of this technical lack of coordination is framed in a change in organizational policies executed by the local corporation of Valencia. Historically, dialogue with the association network was centralized through the Department of Equality, managed in the current 2026 mandate by Councilor Rocío Gil. At the beginning of the Pride preparations, Lambda formally requested the activation of the mixed management commissions used successfully in previous editions to supervise public roads.
However, the municipal government refused to enable said public mediation, notifying the entity that the council would stop assuming the traditional tasks of interdepartmental coordination. As a direct consequence, the citizen group has been forced to manage the bureaucracy and dialogue with the different sectoral services alone, a withdrawal of institutional support that has ended up causing this scenario of physical risk for attendees in the main Valencian commercial artery.
Public explanations for a possible negligent decision
Given the seriousness of the scenario, Lambda management has contacted the Local Police Headquarters to officially report the defects detected and request technical evacuation or containment guidelines. The group demands that the mayor’s office immediately clarify whether the execution of these works in the same week of the event responds to an internal communication problem between municipal contractors, to negligent management of public spaces or to a conscious boycott aimed at hindering the visibility of diverse families.
The entity remembers that the Pride of Valencia enjoys international recognition and requires months of economic and logistical planning. The worsening of communication channels between Lambda and the council should not translate, according to its spokespersons, into a violation of citizens’ rights to demonstration and accessibility. The organization demands an emergency technical intervention before Saturday afternoon to ensure that the march takes place with full civil guarantees.
