With the rainbow flag flying in the wind and emotions running high, the Government Delegation in Madrid has given the symbolic starting signal to LGTBIQ+ Pride 2025. As every year, this event represents much more than an institutional photograph: it is a public declaration of support, visibility and, above all, political commitment to diversity.
Young activists at the forefront
This 2025, the gesture has been loaded with meaning. The flag has not only been placed by authorities, but also by young people from Espacio Esmeralda, an LGTBI-feminist defense group from the IES Los Olivos in Mejorada del Campo. That high school students participate in these types of events speaks of a generation that is growing up with more open, more inclusive values… but that also continues to face obstacles.

Institutional support and associative presence
Key figures from the movement and politics attended the event. Among them, representatives of historical associations such as FELGTBI+, COGAM, Fundación Pedro Zerolo, Fundación 26 de Diciembre, ARCOPOLI, Fundación Eddy-G, LGTBIpol or GMadrid Sports. There was also the presence of Uge Sangil, current president of FELGTBI+, and Julio del Valle Iscar, general director for Real and Effective Equality of LGTBI+ People of the Ministry of Equality.
From the local political sphere, spokespersons for Más Madrid and PSOE from both the City Council and the Madrid Assembly accompanied the event. Mayors of municipalities such as San Martín de la Vega or Velilla de San Antonio have also been represented, in a clear sign that Pride is experienced beyond the center of the capital.
A gesture that gains even more strength this year
The placement of the flag does not occur in any context. This year, the Madrid City Council, led by José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has once again refused to place the Pride flag on emblematic buildings such as the Cibeles Palace. A decision that has already generated criticism in previous editions and that once again raises uncomfortable questions about the institutional commitment to LGTBIQ+ rights.
In this scenario, the action of the Government Delegation takes on special value. Not only for what it represents, but also for what it responds to. Faced with the silence or indifference of certain local administrations, this gesture stands as a way of saying: here we continue, here we resist, here we celebrate.
Security for the state demonstration of LGTBIQ+ Pride 2025
After the symbolic act, the Security Meeting was held regarding the great State Demonstration of LGTBIQ+ Pride 2025. Like every year, this event will bring together thousands of people in the center of Madrid. The authorities have put prevention measures, police devices and emergency plans on the table to guarantee that the celebration takes place in a free, safe and festive environment.
