The Asturian musical scene lights up with the launch of “Ciudad Plataada”, the second album by Oviedo artist Antonio Irún. A work that promises to be a sonic refuge, a space where queer narratives and emotional freedom intertwine in a vibrant and reflective electronic pop. Since last October 22, this album is now available on all platforms, inviting the listener to a journey of self-knowledge and celebration.

A sound universe of liberation and community

“Ciudad Plataada” is not just an album, it is a conceptual work that evokes an inclusive space, where collective care and emotional freedom are fundamental pillars. Antonio Irún, musician, teacher and interdisciplinary creator born in Oviedo in 1993, invites us to immerse ourselves in an album that reflects his first year back to Asturias. In it, urban stories merge with a deep personal journey, exploring identity and diversity.

The album, produced by the talented Germán Mingote (known for his work with Puño Dragón), features a very special collaboration from another prominent Asturian artist: Celia, from the band De Fem. This synergy adds an extra layer of richness to an album that is already presented as a milestone in Irún’s career.

Influences that mark a unique style

The influences on “Silver City” are as varied as they are fascinating, ranging from late ’90s icons like Madonna (“Ray of Light”), Mariah Carey (“Rainbow”) and Christina Rosenvinge (“Que me parta un ray”), to more contemporary sounds like León Benavente and Mazzy Star. This amalgamation of styles allows the album to alternate moments of luminosity and celebration with moments of introspection and emotional density, creating a rich and dynamic listening experience.

Thematically, the album addresses issues of identity, relationships, self-love, sexuality, heartbreak, and the search for personal refuges. All of this is built on a colorful, camp and queer aesthetic universe, which draws on the photography of David LaChapelle and the pop culture of Irún’s childhood, with nods to phenomena such as Pokémon and Sonic.

Beyond music: a comprehensive artistic experience

The relevance of “Ciudad Plataada” transcends the merely musical.Antonio Irún has been selected for the II Artistic Residency of Laboral Centro de Arte in Gijón, where he will develop and extend the universe of his album through performative, visual and community actions. A unique opportunity to experience the album in a conceptual and immersive way, which will run until January 31, 2026.

How does this conceptual experience translate to the personal experience of each person? What does it mean to find a space of love and community in music? “Silver City” invites us to recognize ourselves, celebrate ourselves and be part of a place where being different is not only beautiful, but worthy of celebration.

Develops educational proposals that use English and pop music as tools to encourage creative expression and critical reflection. His music, with poetic but direct language, addresses crucial topics such as identity, mental health and personal transformation.
