  • The Government of Aragon eliminates the specific line of LGTBI aid, which in the previous call had 161,000 euros.
  • The money goes to projects for people with disabilities. The department justifies it this way: “the LGTBI condition is not a disability”.
  • SOMOS LGTB+ Aragón speaks of “serious regression” and calls for the recovery of funding for 2026 and 2027.

LGTBI aid in Aragon disappears from the new grant call. The Department of Deregulation, Social Welfare and Family, led by Alejandro Nolasco (Vox), has eliminated the line of 161,000 euros intended for LGTBI people and their families. The order was published in the BOA on October 2, and the association SOMOS LGTB+ denounced it on October 11.

What has changed in LGTBI aid in Aragon?

The new grant call from the Government of Aragon no longer has a specific line for LGTBI projects. In the previous one, that item totaled 161,000 euros, divided into two blocks of 95,000 and 66,000 euros, according to elDiario.es.

The total budget for the call also decreases: it goes from 611,000 to 516,000 euros, a 15.5% decrease. All that money now goes to projects for equal opportunities for people with disabilities, accessibility, and the elimination of barriers.

There are more changes. The deadline for submitting applications is shortened from 15 to 10 business days, the maximum per project is set at 70,000 euros, and the scoring gives more weight to the capacity of the entity (from 20 to 40 points) than to the quality of the project (from 80 to 60).

What does the Government of Aragon say?

The department of Nolasco, who is also vice president of the Aragonese Government, defends the change with an argument that has generated outrage: “The Department considers that the LGTBI condition is not a disability.”

When asked if there will be specific aid for the group again, he limited himself to responding: “We do not anticipate the content of upcoming calls”. According to elDiario.es, the strategic grant plan was modified on September 23 and the new order was approved a week later.

“A serious regression”: the response from SOMOS LGTB+

SOMOS LGTB+ Aragón considers the elimination of the aid “a serious regression in institutional commitment to sexual, family, and gender diversity”. Its president, Juan Diego Ramos, speaks of “financial uncertainty”.

The entity warns of the consequences: fewer hours of attention, difficulties in maintaining professional teams, and less capacity to respond to cases of discrimination. This line financed in-person attention, advice on rights, awareness, and social participation projects.

The association reminds that “the rights recognized by law need a budget”, and cites Law 18/2018, which requires the development of active LGTBI integration policies, and Law 4/2018, which includes information and advice services for trans and non-binary people.

Who is most affected?

The cut mainly affects rural areas, where there are fewer specialized services and there is fear of losing confidentiality. According to SOMOS, it also hits harder those who suffer from multiple discrimination: migrant people, trans people with employment difficulties, elderly people living alone, people with HIV, and adolescents who suffer family rejection or harassment.

What do LGTBI entities ask for?

SOMOS LGTB+ makes four requests to the Government of Aragon:

  1. Restore a specific line for LGTBI people and their families, with stable resources for 2026 and 2027.
  2. Publish the economic alternatives, with amounts, deadlines, and requirements.
  3. Make public the justification for the elimination.
  4. Meet with Aragonese LGTBI entities to agree on solutions and follow-up mechanisms.

Chunta Aragonesista has also criticized the decision, through its secretary Alejandro Claraco.
