Barcelona, a city at the forefront in the defense of human rights and the fight against discrimination, is embarking on an ambitious project: the development of its new LGTBIQ+ Plan. This plan seeks not only to consolidate the progress made, but also to chart new routes towards full and effective equality for the entire LGTBIQ+ community.
The Voice of the Community: The Heart of “Collective Dialogues”
The fundamental pillar of this initiative is the “Collective Dialogues”, a series of participatory meetings designed to listen to the LGTBIQ+ community of Barcelona. Why is this approach so crucial? Because it is the lived experiences, the real needs and the direct proposals of those who are part of the community that must guide the construction of significant public policies.
These dialogues are not mere forums; They are spaces of joint construction. Its main objective is to carry out a precise diagnosis of the current situation of the LGTBIQ+ community in the city and, from there, define the priorities that will shape the new plan. It is an opportunity for every voice to resonate and contribute to a more inclusive future.
A Legacy of Struggle and a Horizon of Newness
This new LGTBIQ+ Plan is the successor to previous initiatives that have marked an important path in Barcelona, such as the Municipal Plan for the lesbian, gay, transsexual and bisexual community (2010-2015) and the Municipal Plan for sexual and gender diversity. Measures for LGTBI equality (2016-2020). Promoted by the Directorate of Feminism and LGTBI Services, the new document will not only give continuity to these measures, but will also introduce innovative actions.
The aim is to continue promoting the gender perspective and defending LGTBIQ+ rights in all areas, both within the municipal organization and in the daily life of the city. What new actions will this plan bring us to continue advancing equality?
Key Topics for a Deep Debate
The six “Collective Dialogues” will be structured into monographic sessions, each one dedicated to a specific and vital topic for the LGTBIQ+ community. In each meeting, representatives of the community and specialized entities will contribute their proposals and experiences, enriching the debate. In addition, leading people in each area will open the sessions, sharing their vision and knowledge.
The topics that will be addressed are:
- Women: Exploring the challenges and strengths of LGTBIQ+ women.
- Young people: Analyzing the realities and needs of the new generations.
- Intersex and Trans: Giving voice to the experiences and demands of these identities.
- Older People: Addressing the particularities and well-being of LGTBIQ+ seniors.
- Hate Speech: Facing and combating discrimination and intolerance.
Health and Leisure: Promoting comprehensive well-being and safe spaces.
The first dialogue, focused on women, will take place on September 30 at 6:00 p.m. at the LGTBI Center Barcelona.
