For years, rumors about the alleged relationship between Rosalía and Hunter Schafer were a topic of constant conversation. Photographs, complicit gestures and even songs fueled the curiosity of fans and the media. However, it was not until 2024 when the Euphoria actress decided to speak out: yes, they were together for five months in 2019.

What seemed like an open secret ended up being confirmed. And far from creating distance, both have managed to transform that stage into a solid friendship that unites them today, even professionally.

A short but intense story

In 2019 they began to be seen in Los Angeles: walks, coffees, shopping and a bond that was obvious. That same year, Rosalía dedicated a few words to Schafer when receiving a Billboard award: “Thanks to my friend Hunter, I love you very much”. She, from the audience, kissed him back.

The music also became a nod to that connection. In 2021, Rosalía released Tuya, a song that many interpreted as a veiled statement towards Hunter. The lyrics, clearly directed at a woman, fit the narrative that circulated on networks and media.

Finally, in an interview with GQ, Schafer broke the silence: “One part of us wanted to end the speculation, another resisted because it’s nobody’s business. But in the end it was something we were happy to share”.

Rosalía responds from freedom

Now it has been Rosalía who has given her own version. In conversation with Elle US, the artist was asked directly if the relationship with Schafer pressured her to publicly define herself as queer. His response was brief, but forceful:
“No, he didn’t pressure me. I think about freedom. That’s what guides me”.

A statement that, beyond labels, reflects the way in which the singer faces her personal life: without ties and without the need to fit into pre-established definitions. Isn’t that, in the end, the essence of freedom?

From personal life to the film set

The curious thing is that Rosalía and Hunter don’t just share sentimental memories. Now they also work together. The Catalan is part of the cast of the long-awaited third season of Euphoria, whose premiere is scheduled for 2026.

Sam Levinson, creator of the series, has confessed his admiration for Rosalía: “I love releasing her in a scene. Her instincts are fascinating and charismatic”. With these words, it is clear that the artist comes to the project with her own creative space.

Different paths, respect intact

Personally, both have moved on. Rosalía is in a relationship with the actor and singer Emilio Sakraya, while Schafer, after her breakup with Dominic Fike, claims to be single and in the process of emotional recovery.

The interesting thing is that, despite breakups and new partners, both Rosalía and Hunter have insisted on something that is usually difficult: maintaining healthy ties with those who were once a couple. As Schafer said: “Rosalía is part of the family no matter what happens”.

More than a rumor: a story of authenticity

The confirmation of this courtship was never a simple headline. It represents something deeper: the normalization that love stories between LGTBIQ+ people are also part of the cultural and artistic panorama without the need for justifications.

One question remains: to what extent do we need public figures to give explanations about their intimate lives? Perhaps the answer lies in the balance between collective curiosity and the individual right to privacy.
