Dystopian literature with a homosexual perspective assumes a new format of mass dissemination coinciding with the Pride festivities. The Audible platform, a global distributor of digital audio entertainment content owned by Amazon, has announced the exclusive launch of the audiobook Emilio y Octubre Audible. This sound production rescues one of the most applauded early novels by the writer David Uclés, configuring a three-dimensional experience that intertwines the fantastic narrative, the platonic love between two young people and a guided tour through the history of classical European painting.

A top-notch cast for a romantic dystopia

The direction of the sound project has been carried out by the director Rebeca Hernando, who has coordinated the voices of two of the most prominent performers on the national artistic scene. The actor Fernando Guallar takes on the interpretation of Emilio, a young man of deep sensitivity who turns to his favorite pictorial canvases to protect himself from the hostilities of an oppressive political order.

For his part, actor David Carrillo gives life to October, a character wrapped in the mystery of his own origins who functions as the reflective and melancholic counterweight of the plot. Both narrators have agreed in pointing out the overwhelming honesty of the text, highlighting that the recording process has posed a different interpretive challenge due to the constant interaction of the dialogues with musical stimuli and references to tangible works of art.

An interactive ecosystem that transcends screens

The main feature of this release lies in its multi-platform nature, expressly designed to break the traditional boundaries of the audio format. To enrich the listener’s immersion, David Uclés himself has made available to the public an interactive digital gallery that brings together in an orderly manner the paintings that make up the structure of the novel.

In parallel, the literary journey is complemented by the deployment of an official playlist on the Amazon Music platform. This musical archive groups each of the compositions and melodic pieces, strictly respecting their exact order of appearance within the story. In this way, the user experiences complete sensory stimulation, being able to contemplate the works of authors such as Diego Velázquez, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo or René Magritte while the playback of the chapters progresses.

The sound consecration of the literature of David Uclés

The synopsis of the work introduces the reader to a dreamlike near future where Europe faces an absolute drought and the sky must be supported by support beams. The narrative covers chronologically from Emilio’s birth to October’s death, describing a universe where the characters are able to physically enter the three-dimensional paintings of the great international museums, traveling from the slopes of a menina in the Prado Museum to the waters of the Styx lagoon by Joachim Patinir.

David Uclés himself has expressed his satisfaction with the technical result achieved by the team of professionals on the Amazon platform. The Andalusian author already collaborated with the multinational for the sound adaptation of his acclaimed historical novel The Peninsula of Empty Houses, a precedent of commercial success that prompted him to accept without hesitation the production of this new audiobook Emilio y Octubre Audible as the ideal way to expand the lyrical universe of his literary catalog.
