- The dissolution of the Cortes due to the elections on November 29 nullifies the law that punishes conversion therapies, which was already in the Senate.
- The State LGTBI+ Federation calls to “vote with Pride” and for the next Government to resume the pending laws.
- The Trans Platform denounces that hate crimes have tripled so far in 2026.
“Vote with Pride”. That is the call that the State LGTBI+ Federation made on October 5 in view of the general elections on November 29. It did so together with the Trans Platform, and asked the next Government to resume the diversity laws that are stalled due to the dissolution of Parliament.
What laws are nullified with the early elections?
With the dissolution of the General Cortes, all laws that were in process are nullified, and among them are several key for the LGTBIQ+ community. The most notable is the one that punishes conversion practices. According to Europa Press, the law had already passed through Congress and was in the Senate. Now it will not go forward.
Also falling are the Family Law, which was “stuck in Congress”, and the organic law for the protection of minors in digital environments, which was in the drafting phase. The latter sought to restrict access for minors under 16 to social networks.
What does the State LGTBI+ Federation ask for?
The State LGTBI+ Federation asks the next Government to resume all pending legislative initiatives and to prioritize real equality. Its president, Paula Iglesias, listed what remains on the table for the new legislature:
- A State Pact against hate speech towards vulnerable groups.
- The law to penalize conversion practices.
- The development of the Digital Services Act (DSA).
- The Family Law.
- The law for the protection of minors against digital risks.
Iglesias made a call for “social mobilization” and reminded that “the LGTBI+ vote was decisive” in previous elections. “It’s not just about resisting, it’s about continuing to advance,” she summarized.
How does the LGTBI+ community vote, according to the LGTBI+ State 2026?
According to the LGTBI+ State 2026, prepared by 40dB for the State LGTBI+ Federation, if only LGTBI+ people voted, there would be a progressive Government with an absolute majority. The same study indicates that almost 7 out of 10 LGTBI+ people believe that an ultra-conservative Government would put their rights at risk.
The warning from the Trans Platform
Mar Cambrollé, president of the Trans Platform, made a “negative assessment” of the legislature. She criticized the “inaction” of the Executive on three fronts: hate crimes, the physical and mental health of the community, and the memory and reparation of trans people.
Cambrollé provided figures on hate: hate crimes doubled between 2024 and 2025 and have tripled so far in 2026. She lamented that the sanctioning regime of the law against hate “has not been implemented”. She also said that social networks have “become a hunting ground for trans people.”
And she issued a warning: “If the next Government is far-right, more than a request we make a warning: do not dare to touch the rights that we have fought for with our bodies. If you do, you will find us as the people camping now, you will find us revolted and furious.”
