The Andalusian Board has launched the Andalusian Pride Network, an alliance between administrations, entities, and companies to work together against LGTBIfobia. The counselor Loles López presented it on September 22 in Torremolinos (Málaga), at the inauguration of the VI International LGTBI Congress of Andalusia.
What is the Andalusian Pride Network?
Andalusian Pride is a collaboration network that seeks to coordinate policies for the defense of diversity and the rights of LGTBI people in Andalusia. Its goal is for administrations, collectives, and companies to share what each one is already doing and work together against discrimination.
Among its lines of work are sharing research, awareness campaigns, and celebrations. The Board presents it with an underlying idea: that the Andalusian population feels proud of its diversity 365 days a year, and not just during Pride.
“We take a step further. Andalusian Pride is born,” announced Loles López, counselor of Social Services, Families, and Equality.
Who is part of it?
The first four municipalities that joined are Seville, Jerez de la Frontera, Almería, and Torremolinos. The network is designed to add more localities, entities, and companies from the entire community.
The next step will be to create a coordinating commission that organizes and manages its work. On behalf of Torremolinos, the councilor for Equality, Education, and Youth, Francisco García, highlighted the open and cosmopolitan nature of the municipality, one of the historic LGTBIQ+ destinations in Spain.
A congress with a red card to intolerance
The VI International LGTBI Congress of Andalusia was held in Torremolinos on September 22 and 23, with the slogan “Respect and Diversity: red card to intolerance”. Its axes were intersexuality, sport as an inclusive space, education, and the fight against LGTBIfobia.
The inaugural conference was given by writer and educator Mer Gómez, who spoke about intersex realities. The program also included a talk by María Guadalupe Ñeco Reyna on sexual and gender diversity in public policies.
Why it matters
That institutions coordinate in a network allows policies against LGTBIfobia not to depend on the will of each municipality separately. If the network grows beyond its four founding municipalities, it can become a common framework for all of Andalusia.
